MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF JANUARY 28, 2008.
The minutes of the regularly scheduled Monticello City Council Meeting of January 28, 2008 held in Council Chambers of the Municipal Building in Monticello, Piatt County, Illinois.
Meeting convened at 7:00 P.M.

City Clerk Fruendt opened the meeting. Clerk Fruendt entertained a motion to elect a Mayor Pro-Tem in the absence of Mayor Mitze. A motion was made by Alderman Hiller, seconded by Alderman Brown to nominate Alderman Corrie as the Mayor Pro-Tem. Motion Carried.
Mayor Pro-Tem Corrie led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance.
A motion was made by Alderman Hiller seconded by Alderman McHale to approve the City Council minutes of January 14,2008, the Claims Report of January 28, 2008, the Budget Report ending December 31, 2007, and the Treasurer and Investment Reports for November 30, 2007. Motion Carried
Mayor Pro-Tem announced Parkland College will be having a town meeting called Big Ideas on February 4th from 5:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. This meeting is to help Parkland College find out the kind of services to the community or the college that needs to be worked on. City Clerk Fruendt helped them organize the meeting. Two ribbon cutting ceremonies will be taking place one on February 8th at 1:30 P.M. for Melissa Waller Photography in the old street levee mall and the other is on February 12th at 1:15 P.M. for Celebrations located on W. Washington Street. Corrie wanted to thank Kathy Mills for all her work while she was working at the city building. She will be missed.
Chamber of Commerce President Kevin Richardson and Vice President Shelly Crawford-Stock presented a power point presentation on what they do and what they do for Monticello.
Student Advisor King wanted to thank everyone who attended the play the Wizard of Oz put on by the Thespians. The proceeds will go the Taylor Brown fund. They raised approximately $2,500. Also, the Girls Basketball team won their conference and will go on. The wrestling team is struggling but the individuals are doing extremely well. The Boys Basketball teams record is 16-5.
Alderman Corrie made the announcements for Alderman Hayes in his absence. Adult Recreation Open Gym Volleyball is at Lincoln School every Wednesday and Sunday. Anyone at least 16 years of age and older can participate. The cost for this is $1.00 daily participation fee. The City Recreation Department will be hosting a make it and take it Valentines craft for kids ages 3 –6. This event will take place on February 7th from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the municipal building. The fee is $2.00 per child. Pre-registration is required at the municipal building. Summer Ball registration is February 11th –22nd. The Recreation Department is currently accepting applications for summer help. Applications may be picked up at and returned to the municipal building.
In Superintendent Allsop’s report, he stated the guys in the office are still working on the Varner ditch. Mr. Allsop will be meeting on Thursday with EMS to discuss house numbers and streets. Alderman Hayes, Carlos, Mindy and Allsop will be meeting with Greg Gustafson to discuss the pool project. The goal of these meetings are to generate a project schedule and cost estimates, then educate the public with the process. Troy Arney is back to work helping with the generator project. The Pepsin Project area needs to have the contamination area worked on once the weather permits. At the north end of town the water project is in the design phase. Mr. Allsop is still working on the Budget. Carlos and Mindy from the Recreation Department are working on having a shred day. This would allow the public to bring anything they need shredded if they do not have access to a shredder. Alderman Allman asked if with the cold weather was there very many water main breaks. Allsop responded by saying a few happened nothing major.
A motion was made by Alderman Allman, seconded by Alderman Kuetemeyer to adjourn at 7:39 P.M.
