MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF OCTOBER 26, 2009
The minutes of the regularly scheduled Monticello City Council Meeting of October 26, 2009 held in Council Chambers of the Municipal Building in Monticello, Piatt County, Illinois.

Mayor Corrie led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Callie McFarland announced the winner of the Food Drive. They were the Ward 2 Aldermen. The losers, Ward 1, had to kiss a pig.
A motion was made by Alderman Eades, seconded by Alderman Hiller to approve the Claims Report for October 26, 2009, and Fire and Police Commission Minutes from December 2008, Motion Carried.
In the Mayor’s report, Mayor Corrie stated that there was a good turnout for the Monticello Tour of Homes event. There were 37 open houses. There have been several sets of plans & bid specs picked up for the new pool project. The Norfolk and Southern Railroad has accepted the offer for the land purchased East of Buchanan Street for the future work on the culvert that runs under Buchanan Street.
In public participation, Joe Brown asked about the Senior Center going over budget and why? Alderman Kuetemeyer explained about the unforeseen structural and sewer tile problems they encountered.
A Motion was made by Alderman Hiller, seconded by Alderman Eades to approve Resolution 2009-50. A resolution to approve the ILMRMA Insurance. This is an annual renewal and resolution. Motion Carried
Council had an open discussion on the residential sanitary sewer rates. The rates are currently based on an average of water usage for the six months of Fall and Winter, and that sewer rate (average) is billed each month of the following year. They are looking into conserving water due to the impact on the Mahomet Aquifer. In the discussions it was proposed to bill sanitary sewer use based upon the resident’s water usage every month.
There was also open discussion on reconstructing the detention pond on Washington Street next
to the Middle School to prevent excessive water drain off that crosses over Washington Street. An estimate of the work to do this was $220,000.
In the Alderman’s Reports, Alderman Mitze asked about the brush drop off. It will be open from Noon to Five through November. Leaves in paper bags will be picked up by the City two to three days a week. Alderman Hiller stated there is a new business coming to town. Curry Redimix, a concrete facility locating be out in Bear Park. Alderman Cummings gave a list of jobs that the City workers have been doing for the last couple of days. Monticello Trick or Treat hours are from 6 to 8pm. The Annual Christmas Parade is December 5, 2009. Student Advisor Cravens stated that the High School football playoff game is Saturday at 2pm against Camp Point. The Boys Soccer team has made it to Sectionals.
