MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF October 13, 2009
The minutes of the regularly scheduled Monticello City Council Meeting of October 13, 2009 held in Council Chambers of the Municipal Building in Monticello, Piatt County, Illinois.

Mayor Corrie led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance.
A motion was made by Alderman Eades, seconded by Alderman Hiller to approve the Claims Report for October 13, police report, and the September Permits. Motion Carried
In the Mayor’s report, Mayor Corrie stated that the food drive ends Friday. He also said that 68 cent of every dollar residents spend locally, they get back. If you spend it out of town only 42 cents come back, and no money comes back when shopping online.
In old business Alderman Mitze wanted to thank the residents for participating in the food drive. Alderman Kuetemeyer. Commented on how well the Front Street Bridge looks.
In new business Superintendent Alsop discussed with the Council the financing options of the new swimming pool.
A motion was made by Alderman Kuetemeyer, seconded by Alderman Cummings to approve Resolution 2009-47. A resolution approving the acquisition of the railroad property East of Buchanan Street. Motion Carried
A motion was made by Alderman Mitze, seconded by Alderman Cummings, to approve Resolution 2009-48. A resolution that sets up a fund to help residents out with the cost of installing a sanitary sewer shutoff valve. Motion Carried
A motion was made by Alderman Cummings, seconded by Alderman Brown, to approve Resolution 2009-49. A resolution approving a fund to help residents with the cost of installing an ejector pump on their sanitary sewer. Motion Carried
A school speed zone for the Metamorphosis School was tabled for further discussion.
In the Alderman’s Report, Alderman Hayes read an Abe Lincoln letter. Soccer ends October 24. Deadline to turn in Halloween coloring contests is October 20. Halloween Fest is October 29 at the new City Center. The Fire Department had a good turnout for the Open House. Alderman Hiller stated that the Ghost Train will be opening. The Polar Express train is sold out. The Lunch with Santa train is filling quickly. Alderman Cummings complemented everyone for donating to the Food Drive. The City Wide Cleanup was very busy. He also asked how the permit was coming for the pool. The permit was received today. Alderman Mitze read the Police Report. Student Advisor Cravens stated that the football team had a record of 5-2. Soccer regional’s start this week and next week is Red Ribbon Week.
