MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF September 14, 2009
The minutes of the regularly scheduled Monticello City Council Meeting of September 14, 2009 held in Council Chambers of the Municipal Building in Monticello, Piatt County, Illinois.

Mayor Corrie led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mayor Corrie swore in Tyler Cravens the new Student Advisor.
Motion was made by Alderman Eades, seconded by Alderman Brown to approve the September 14, 2009 Claims Report, August 24, 2009 Council Minutes, August 2009 monthly permits, and the Treasurers Report for July 31, 2009
In the Mayor’s Report, Mayor Corrie stated that the Monticello Celebration is this weekend. He also wanted to encourage people not to rake your leaves into the streets to prevent the storm drains from plugging up. He asked the Police Chief about abandoned cars on streets and on people’s property.
In Old Business, Alderman Kuetemeyer asked for a status report on the Front Street bridge.
In New Business, Luke Zocher gave the Council an overview of his Eagle Scout Project. He plans on setting up drop off stations around town for battery recycling, and also used oil recycling. He would like to have a magnet made that explains where the drop offs are and wanted to send them out with the City Water bill to disburse them.
A motion was made by Alderman Eades, seconded by Alderman Kuetemeyer to approve Ordinance 2009-44. An Ordinance that approves no parking on State Street, from Lone Beach south to Livingston Street. Motion Carried.
A motion was made by Alderman Kuetemeyer, seconded by Alderman Murdock to approve Ordinance 2009-45. An Ordinance that approves installing stop signs at the intersections of Poplar and East North Street, Buchanan and Longview, and Applewood Drive and Orchard Lane. Motion Carried.
A motion was made by Alderman Mitze, Seconded by Alderman Cummings to approve Resolution 2009-46. An Ordinance approving the Community Notification System. Motion Carried.
In Alderman Reports, Student Advisor said there were 553 students enrolled in the High School this year. The theme for Homecoming this year is Mystical Mayhem. The high school sports teams are off to a good start this year.
Alderman Murdock asked about a traffic light at the intersection of Market and Marion. According to DOT there is no need for one there.
Alderman Eades stated the football games have been well attended for both home and away games. He also said that the Fire Department is having their annual open house on Thursday October 8, 2009. There will be food and beverages, fire prevention and safety handouts, and a hose bowling game.
Alderman Cummings said the pool demolition is about complete and gave an update on what city workers have been working on.
Alderman Hiller stated Any Frequency is moving to the old Lone Pine bookstore. The Monticello Celebration is coming up, and the Railway Museum is having a replica of an old steam engine.
Alderman Hayes read a Lincoln letter. JFL won both of their games against Clinton on Sunday. On Saturdays, you can see 16 different soccer games between 8:30 and 11:30. The fall cleanup is October 9, 10, and 11.
A motion was made by Alderman Cumming, seconded by Alderman Eades to adjourn at 8:25pm.
