MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF August 10, 2009

The minutes of the regularly scheduled Monticello City Council Meeting of August 10, 2009 held in Council Chambers of the Municipal Building in Monticello, Piatt County, Illinois.

Mayor Corrie led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Motion was made by Alderman Eades, seconded by Alderman Hiller to approve the August 10, 2009 Claims Report, June 30, 2009 Treasurers Report, July Building Permits, July 15 and July 27, 2009 Council Minutes, and the July 2009 Police Report. Motion Carried.

In the Mayor’s Report, Mayor Corrie stated that there were about eighty people that attended the movie shown on the square during First Friday.  He also wanted to thank the city employees for the work they did setting up the screen for the movie. 

In public participation David Monk commented on the bike path east of town could use some maintenance with the weeds and more prairie type plants planted.  Dan Walker from the Economic Development Group talked about the TIF Districts in town and answered some questions the Alderman had about the TIF Districts. 

A Motion was made by Alderman Hayes, seconded by Alderman Murdock to approve Ordinance 2009-39.  An Ordinance to approve the Libation area of the Monticello Celebration.  Cochran Keating spoke of the changes to the libation area this year.  This year the Monticello Main Street will be selling the alcohol from the beer trailer.  He also explained the guidelines of the area.  Motion Carried

In the Alderman Reports, Alderman Hayes stated that there were 11,356 in attendance at the pool this year.  There were 1,249 members and they had 415 children attend swim lessons.  JFL has there first game this Saturday against Tuscola.  Soccer registration is Tuesday night.  Alderman Hiller stated that Hardees is sponsoring the Make It Happen Tour to help support Willow Tree Missions on Saturday from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.  Macintosh Studio has opened downtown.  Alderman Cummings asked for an update on the Senior Center.  He also stated that the city departments are flushing hydrants out in Appletree Subdivision.  Alderman Mitze gave an update on the police department.  Alderman Eades stated that the fire department has new map cases and a patch case installed. 

A motion was made by Alderman Hayes, seconded by Alderman Murdock to adjourn at 8:15pm.
