Harold R. Sarver, 75 of Monticello, passed away at 1:35am Monday, September 29, 2008 at the John and Mary E. Kirby Hospital, Monticello.
Graveside services will be helf at 1:00pm Friday, October 3, 2008 at the Bement Township Cemetery, Bement. The Rev. Arthur Woolley will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 3, 2008 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Roux-Hinds Funeral Home, 348 N. Piatt Street, Bement.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Harold R. Sarver memorial fund in care of the State Bank of Bement.
Harold was born on November 5, 1932, a son of William and Mary Jo Quiggins Sarver in Vanzant, KY. He married Mary Louise Schoonover on November 7, 1964 in Champaign. She passed away January 1, 1992.
Survivors include his children, Tina (Bar) Brackett of Pierson, Gina (Kory) Hodge of White Heath, Harold Ray Jr. "Buddy" (Brenda) Sarver of Tolono, Lisa (Pat) Helphrey of Decatur, Karen Wheeler, Georgia Wheeler of Nashville, Tenn., and Brenda Wheeler of Davenport, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Harold will be dearly missed by his family, friends and longtime companion, Glenda Hays of Monticello.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and one grandson.
Harold served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 5520 of Champaign. Throughout his life, Harold worked in may fields. He was able to continue truck driving, his most enjoyable work, throughout his senior years, hauling grain locally.
Roux-Hinds Funeral Home, 348 N. Piatt St., Bement, has been entrusted with the family's loved one for Harold's services.
