John Dale Kirkland, 57 of Monticello, passed away at 1:15pm Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Kirby Hospital in Monticello.

Graveside service will be at 10:00am Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at the Monticello Township Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites.  Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:30pm Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home in Monticello with a Masonic Service at 8:30pm.  Interment will be in the Monticello Township Cemetery.

John was born June 6, 1951 in Champaign, the son of Dale and Elva (Johnson) Kirkland.

Surviving are his daughters: Megan, Tory and Jenny, twin sister: Janice Shiffer of Monticello, brother Herb Shewmaker of Bement, and 4 grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

John was a Sergent in the U.S. Army Reserves.  He was a member of the DeLand Masonic Lodge and the DeLAnd American Legion Post.
