George R. Perabeau, 77 of Champaign, passed away Saturday afternoon, August 21, 2010 at the residence of Chris and Vicki Foran in Seymour, after a long battle with cancer.
Services will be held at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home in Monticello, Illinois, at 11:00am on August 24, 2010 with Fr. Bruce Lopez officiating, and visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held in the Monticello Township Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites.
George was born February 11, 1933 in Chicago, IL, the son of Leslie George and Minnie Alice (Byers) Perabeau. His parents and 20 siblings moved to Galesburg, IL where he spent most of his younger years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received an Honorable discharge on December 2, 1953. He married Gilda Imogene Baughman on April 2, 1955 in Galesburg. George worked for Butler Corporation in Galesburg for many years until his family moved to Jacksonville where he began working for Oscar Mayer Corporation of Beardstown, IL. Upon retiring from the Illinois Department of Corrections, George and Imogene moved to a farm south of Bondville, IL and he worked as a school bus driver for Mahomet School District for a number of years.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene, five years ago. George is survived by a son, Steve Perabeau (Connie) and their two boys, Josh and Doug who reside in Jacksonville, IL. ALso, a daughter, Vicki Foran (Chris) and their children Montana, Chelsea and Austin of Seymour, IL. He is also survived by his brother, Carl R. "Bob" Perabeau (Mae) of Bushnell, sisters, Betty Leaphy of Henderson, Bernice Thacker of Chicago, Cheryl Kay Davis of Galesburg, Peggy Sue Ledbetter of Abington, Mary Maxine Mackey of Savannah, GA, and Barbara Jean Davis of Lexington, KY. George enjoyed riding his motorcycle and bowling.
