Dorothy C. Doty, 90 of Bement, passed away at 5:14pm Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the John and Mary E. Kirby Hospital E.R., Monticello.
A visitation was held on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at Roux-Hinds Funeral Home, 348 N. Piatt St., Bement. A Funeral service was held at 11:00am Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at the Bement United Methodist Church, 249 N. Piatt Street, Bement. Pastor Mark Smith officiated. Burial was held at the Monticello Township Cemetery.

Dorothy was born on December 17, 1919 in Sullivan, a daughter of Vern and Myrtle Shaw Smith. She married Francis H. Doty on August 24, 1947 in Bement and he passed away on March 15, 2005.
Surviving is one daughter, Karen Doty of Bement.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Kenneth Smith.
Dorothy was member of the Bement United Methodist Church, Piatt County Home Extension and the Retired Teachers Association of Piatt and Moultrie Counties. Dorothy graduated from Sullivan High School and received her bachelor's degree in teaching from Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, and later received her master's degree in education from Millikin University, Decatur.
Dorothy started her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse and later moved to the Bement Grade School, where she taught for over 20 years. She enjoyed gardening, music and working with children.
Roux-Hinds Funeral Home, 348 N. Piatt Street, Bement, has been entrusted with the family's loved one for Dorothy's services.
