During the month of February, officers worked 11 criminal offense cases, made 4 criminal arrests, wrote 19 traffic tickets and worked 5 accidents.
The following is a breakdown of other details worked on by officers during the month: 113 tours of duty, answered 137 dispatched calls, gave out 47 verbal warnings and 4 written warnings, answered 10 calls for roadside assistance to motorist, worked on 35 followups on active cases, went on 105 calls that did not require reports to be taken, conducted 559 residential vacation checks for local residents, answered 15 false alarm calls, worked 10 escorts, assisted other department in the area including Illinois State Police and Piatt County Sheriff's Department a total of 14 times, assisted on 7 ambulance calls and 8 fire department calls, worked 13 public service details, responded 7 times on 911 calls, conducted 48 foot patrols in the downtown area, and did 5000 business building checks in town.
Most common problems reported during the month were domestic violence, DUI arrest and violations of orders of protection.
Day to day operations continue as well as numerous follow up reports and investigation of leads in our pending cases. We have conducted many hours of extra patrol in the business district and continue to do so around the clock, seven days a week.
Numerous administrative duties were completed in February by myself and Deputy Chief Nayonis that included staff evaluations. Training was held for EMS agencies for the Blackboard Connect, a rapid community notification system on February 23 with Blackboard Connect going into service on March 1, 2010. Pam Baker attended a training seminar in Urbana for LMS, Learning Management Systems, which is the Illinois State Police and ILEAS, a computer based training system for all law enforcement personnel. This is a new training system for law enforcement that will make it possible to expand training opportunities for us. I also attended a Union negotiating meeting on February 19, 2010.
