City Recreation Offering RAD Basic Self Defense for Women

Feb 5, 2010

The City of Monticello Department of Recreation will be offering a Rape Agression Defense (RAD) course for women.

The Rape Agression Defense System is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women.  The RAD SYSTEM is a comprehensive women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing on to the basic hands-on defense training.  RAD is not a Martial Arts program.  The course is taught by Sgt. Yvonne Meyer, a nationally certified RAD Instructor and Parkland College Public Safety Officer, and provides each student with a workbook/reference manual.  This manual outlines the entire Physical Defense Program for reference and continuous personal growth, and is the key to the free lifetime return and practice policy for RAD graduates.

This is a four-week course that will be held on Thursdays, February 18th through March 11th.  Classes will be 6:00pm - 9:00pm at the Monticello City Center, 224 E. Livingston.  An optional 5th week will be offered for participants who want to practice techniques taught over the period of the course.

Registration is required as space is limited.  A registration fee of $10 per participant is due at the time of registration to cover material costs.  Participants can register by visiting the Municipal Building, 210 N. Hamilton, Monticello.  For more information, contact the Monticello Municipal Building, 217.762.2583.
